General Training
Accidental Education delivers a range of nationally recognised first aid and emergency response courses through our partnering Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Our most popular courses include CPR (HLTAID009), First Aid (HLTAID011), Advanced First Aid (HLTAID014), Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy (HLTAID015), Pool Lifeguard Skill Set (SISSS00133) and Emergency Care for Suspected Spinal Injury (PUAEME007). CPR certification is generally valid for 12 months. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends CPR skills are refreshed annually to ensure participants remain confident and competent in responding to cardiac emergencies.
Most nationally recognised First Aid qualifications are valid for three years, while CPR should be refreshed every 12 months. Regular refresher training helps ensure your skills remain current and meet workplace requirements.

Prompt first aid can save lives, reduce the severity of injuries and improve recovery outcomes. Well-trained staff also help organisations meet workplace health and safety obligations while creating a safer working environment.
Under Australian Work Health and Safety legislation, employers must provide appropriate first aid facilities, equipment, procedures and trained personnel based on the size of the workplace and identified risks.

Pool lifeguard training is suitable for anyone seeking employment as a professional pool lifeguard or those currently working in aquatic facilities who require nationally recognised qualifications or refresher training.
Industry best practice recommends regular annual refresher training to maintain rescue skills, CPR competency, spinal management techniques and emergency response confidence.
Requirements vary between employers; however, many aquatic facilities require the Pool Lifeguard Skill Set (SISSS00133), CPR, First Aid, emergency oxygen therapy and regular refresher training.

Advanced Resuscitation
Advanced resuscitation training builds on standard CPR by teaching participants how to use oxygen therapy equipment, bag-valve-mask ventilation, suction devices and advanced emergency response procedures.
The course is ideal for healthcare professionals, workplace emergency response teams, lifeguards, aquatic staff, industrial responders and anyone whose role requires advanced emergency response capabilities.
Participants learn to safely use oxygen cylinders, regulators, masks, bag-valve masks (BVMs), oxygen delivery devices and associated emergency resuscitation equipment.
Yes. AED operation forms an important component of advanced resuscitation training, alongside CPR and oxygen therapy.
Spinal Management
Aquatic spinal management teaches participants how to recognise, stabilise and safely manage suspected spinal injuries occurring in swimming pools and aquatic environments.
Incorrect handling of a spinal injury may increase the risk of permanent damage. Proper training helps responders safely immobilise casualties while protecting the airway and reducing further injury.
The course is recommended for pool lifeguards, aquatic centre staff, swim school instructors, emergency responders, sporting organisations and anyone responsible for water safety.
Most aquatic employers recommend annual refresher training to maintain competency, confidence and alignment with current industry best practice.
Participants learn to use spinal boards, head immobilisers, cervical collars where applicable, rescue tubes, rescue boards and other aquatic rescue equipment.

Additional Frequently Asked Questions
No. You do not need to complete a CPR course before enrolling in a First Aid course. Nationally recognised First Aid courses include CPR training as part of the program, ensuring participants learn both life-saving CPR techniques and broader first aid skills. If you only require CPR certification, you can complete a standalone CPR course.
HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) focuses specifically on recognising cardiac arrest, performing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid includes CPR plus a broader range of emergency response skills, including managing bleeding, fractures, burns, asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures, shock and other medical emergencies.
If your workplace requires comprehensive emergency response skills, HLTAID011 is generally the preferred qualification.
Course duration depends on the qualification and the amount of pre-course learning completed. Most nationally recognised First Aid courses can be completed within one day when participants complete any required online learning beforehand. We offer flexible delivery options to suit workplaces and organisations throughout New South Wales.
Some theoretical components may be completed online before attending the practical session. However, nationally recognised First Aid courses require participants to successfully complete face-to-face practical assessments, including CPR and emergency response scenarios, before certification can be issued.
